ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

What’s the role?

As a critical member of our accounting team, you will be trusted with responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Daily processing of AP/AR/Billing transactions

Communicating and creating service solutions to resolve internal/external solutions

CONTROLLER
Leading wholesaler and distributor of petroleum products, Pinnacle Petroleum, has an immediate need for a Controller to provide accounting support to the organization, involving independent judgement and action. This person will be responsible for the accounting activities of the organization aiming to drive automation and efficiency and to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP). This position reports to the VP of Finance.

Duties Include:

Ensure timely reporting of daily, weekly and monthly management reports.

Prepare pre-closing account schedule and reconciliations including resolving discrepancies.

Prepare, analyze and report weekly profitability by job report.
-
Manage Accounts Receivable, Billing and Accounts Payable departments.
-
Collaborate, plan and manage Accounts Receivable, Billing and Accounts Payable to ensure processes are running smoothly and timely. Resolve daily issues.

Reconcile A/R and A/P monthly aging and other various accounts to the general ledger.

Prepare necessary journal entries for pre-close monthly financial statement reporting.

Manage and oversee the preparation and reconciliation of the monthly, quarterly and annual sales/use tax, fuel tax and other required filings for various tax jurisdictions.

Prepare monthly lead schedule for excise/sales tax receivables and payables.
-
Ensure compliance with tax rate changes including updating in accounting system and communication with Management.

Ensure tax compliance with customers and vendors.
-
Develop processes/systems that continually accomplish and improve accuracy and efficiency.

Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
-
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.

Back up for payroll and other Human Resource related tasks.
-
Special projects as assigned.

Work closely with other key internal relationships.
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
-
Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, CPA preferred but not required.

Experience with Sage 100 is a plus.
-
Advanced Excel skills; knowledge of VBA is a plus.

Direct experience performing detailed and data intensive reconciliations.
-
Strong technical accounting skills and be current with regulations and compliance issues.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Must have the ability to work in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and shifting time requirements
